Craig Stedman for Judge

Proven Prosecutor and Veteran

Craig Stedman

Lancaster Court of Common Pleas

Craig Stedman is the elected District Attorney of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  He has spent his career fighting for victims of crime and public safety as a county and federal prosecutor.  Mr. Stedman has served in the role of District Attorney since January 2008 supervising all criminal prosecutions in Lancaster County. In this role, DA Stedman also oversees 88 employees including prosecutors, detectives and victim advocates.

DA Stedman wants to become a part of the Court of Common Pleas of Lancaster County to serve the citizens of our county and apply the law fairly and with equal justice for everyone. He believes in the rule of law. He recognizes that our institutions are greater than any one individual or issue and we must respect the law and the foundations upon which it rests. The concepts of fairness and equal justice are not just words to him and he is committed to interpreting the law with integrity, honor, and common sense. Craig absolutely understands that the role of a judge is to follow the law fairly and impartially rather than make or change it. An appointment to the Court of Common Pleas of Lancaster County is as an opportunity for Craig to make our county a better place for everyone by directly serving the residents with character, respect, intelligence, and wisdom.

As DA, he has been driven to protect the most vulnerable and created the first ever countywide Elder Abuse Unit as well as greatly enhanced the Child Abuse Unit, which has received statewide recognition.  He collaborated with the courts and reduced the prison population with targeted strategies and increased efficiency.  He created the office’s first Outreach Coordinator to focus on outreach, prevention and education and built one of the top Computer Forensic Units in the state.  DA Stedman is a strong supporter of Veteran’s Court and routinely works with the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association on legislation and improvements.

Prior to his election, DA Stedman served as Assistant District Attorney in Lancaster for seventeen years as a trial and appellate lawyer.  DA Stedman eventually specialized in homicide prosecutions and successfully handled the most complicated and serious cases.  He took over as the Chief of the Lancaster County Major Crimes Unit 2000 and worked hand in hand with police on the front lines to solve murders.  All of his trial convictions have withstood appellate scrutiny and none have been overturned.

DA Stedman also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 2002-06 as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a President Bush initiative, and prosecuted gun crimes in federal court.

DA Stedman received his law degree from the Penn State University Dickinson School of Law, Magna Cum Laude, and received a Bachelor of Arts in History from University of Delaware, Magna Cum Laude and with Distinction.

He attended the University of Delaware on a ROTC scholarship and served as a military intelligence officer in the United States Army Reserves upon graduating from the United States Army Intelligence Center and School in Fort Huachuca, Arizona.  He remains a member of the Military Officer’s Association of America.

DA Stedman has served the party for many years as a member of the Manheim Township Republican Committee and the Republican Party of Pennsylvania State Committee.

In addition to his role as District Attorney, DA Stedman serves as a member of numerous boards to include the Lancaster County Prison Board, Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association Executive Committee, Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association Best Practices Committee, the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing Strategic Planning Work Group, Lancaster Community Safety Coalition, and the Historic Rock Ford Plantation. DA Stedman was a member of the Lancaster Multiple Sclerosis Leadership Class and the Advisory Council. He is a 2004 graduate of Leadership Lancaster and now instructs their annual session on Law and Justice.

DA Stedman is fifty-four (54), was born in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania and raised in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.  He is married and the father of a son and a daughter.
